Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep

Repeat after us!

Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep
And can't tell where to find them.
Leave them alone,
And they'll come home,
Wagging their tails behind them.

Little Bo Peep fell fast asleep,
And dreampt she heard them bleating;
But when she awaoke, she found it a joke,
For still they all were fleeting.

Then up she took her little crook,
Determined for to find them;
She found them indeed, but it made her heart bleed,
For they'd left all their tails behind them!

It happened one day, as Bo Peep did stray
Unto a meadow hard by --
There she espied their tails, side by side,
All hung on a tree to dry.

She heaved a sigh and wiped her eye,
And over the hillocks she raced;
And tried what she could, as a shepherdess should,
That each tail should be properly placed.

小さなビー・ピープ　羊たちがいなくなった。

どこを探せばいいかわからない。

ほっとけば、帰ってくるよ。

しっぽを振って。

小さなビー・ピープぐっすり寝込んだ。

そして羊たちが鳴いている夢を見た。

目がさめると鳴いてないとわかった。

羊たちはみんなまだ逃げている。

そこで杖をとって見つけてやると決意した。

実際見つけたには見つけたんだけど、

心が痛んだ。

なぜかって羊たちはみんなしっぽをどこかにおいてきちゃったから。

ある日ビー・ピープが近くの草地に迷い込んだ。

そこにを見つけたんだ、置いてきちゃったしっぽ

木にずらりとつるして干してあった。

ため息をついて、涙を拭いて、

丘を越えて走っていった。

羊飼いならしなくちゃいけない。

一つ一つしっぽを元に戻した。

このライムはエリザベス一世時代にまでさかのぼるとされます。その由来はかくれんぼだとか、赤ちゃんの頭をすばやく手で包んだりはずしたりする遊びにあるとも言われています。
