Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye;
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,

【歴史】

宴会で、生きた鳥が時にパイに入れられ、それを切り分けるとき飛び出すようにした余興があったそうです。小鳥ならまだしも、古い歌では、パイから飛び出すのは子供だったりしますから、本当にあったのでしょうか?

この北原白秋の役では女中さんは鼻をはじかれただけですが、Snip off は「切り落とす」なので、切り落とされた鼻を縫って直したとかいう歌がついたものもあります。
