The Grand Old Duke of York

The Grand Old Duke of York.
He had ten thousand men.
He marched them up to the top of the hill.
And he marched them down again.
 
And when they were up, they were up.
And when they were down, they were down.
And when they were only half way up,
They were neither up nor down.

ヨークの殿様1万人の家来がいた。

家来を丘の上まで行進させた。

そして丘をまた行進して下らせた。

そして上にいるときは上にいて、

下にいるときは下にいる。

でも、家来たちが途中にいるときには上にも下にもいない。

【歴史】

ヨークの殿様はFrederick Augustusで、ジョージ三世の次男でした。けれども、おかしなことに、彼の軍隊生活ではこのようなことはまったくありませんでした。

【遊び方】

Oh, the grand old Duke of York,

He had ten thousand men（10本の指を広げる）

He marched them up to the top of the hill,

（爪先立ちで適当なところを行進）
And he marched them down again.

（だんだん屈伸していき、腰を落としながら行進）

And, when they were up they were up;

（今度は反対にひざを伸ばしていく）

And when they were down they were down.
（屈伸しながら）

But when they were only halfway up,（中腰）
They were neither up （伸ばし）nor down.（腰を落とす）
